She was born in 1929 and her mother was Jadanbai, a Muslim singer, and her father was a Hindu, named Uttamchand Mohanchand. So, Nargis' birth name was' Fatima Rashid '
When Nargis was six years old, in 1935, she had the opportunity to star in the film Talaash-e-huk. Here she played the role of a small child and was nicknamed 'Baby Nargis'. The name was derived from the name of a flower, which became so popular that it was later used in all her productions.
