Today, we are exploring the twin towns of Zgorzelec, Poland, and Görlitz, Germany. Originally, these towns were one city, known as Görlitz in German and Zgorzelec in Polish. However, post-WWII border revisions divided the city along the Lusatian Neisse river, creating the new Polish-German border. With the reunification of Germany and Poland's accession to the EU and the Schengen area, these towns are now seamlessly connected, and border controls are a thing of the past. In today’s video, we will be crossing the border multiple times to visit the most popular sites in both towns, including the Pfarrkirche, Altstadt, Reichenbacher Turm, Frauenkirche, Berliner Straße, and Dom Kultury. If you enjoy watching Hollywood films then you might find sights in today’s video familiar, as Görlitz (sometimes called “Gorliwood” by locals) is the place where many Hollywood blockbusters like “The Grand Budapest Hotel” were filmed.
