Tensions escalated in Manipur’s Ukhrul district after armed militants allegedly torched several houses amid clashes between Tangkhul Naga and Kuki community members. The violence followed an alleged assault on a Tangkhul Naga man, which led to stone-pelting between groups in Litan village on Sunday evening.

Officials said houses belonging to both communities were set ablaze in separate incidents around midnight. Security forces were deployed in and around Litan, and tear gas was used to disperse clashing groups. Prohibitory orders have been imposed by the district administration, citing apprehension of a breach of peace. Authorities said the situation remains tense and damage is being assessed.
