Director Kat Coiro on the rom-com being viewed as 'a lesser-than genre'

Filmmaker Kat Coiro kicked off 2022 helming both Jennifer Lopez's rom-com "Marry Me" and Marvel's Tatiana Maslany-led Disney+ series "She-Hulk." The director spoke to Yahoo Entertainment in February about the responsibility that comes with venturing into both of these big-screen worlds, and her eagerness to re-embrace the often maligned rom-com genre on a studio scale for "Marry Me."

"One of the things that I find really frustrating is this idea that the rom-com is a lesser-than genre, that it's a chick flick," she notes. "I think there's an inherent sexism baked into that."
