New Zealand's National Film Unit presents 'Skiing at Chateau Tongariro' (1960)

Shows the activities of thousands of skiers who come every year to Chateau Tongariro. It opens with views of the three mountains, Tongariro, Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe – the last-named in eruption. Instruction of learner skiers and the amenities such as ski-tows and chair-lifts are shown, and visitors are seen swimming in the hot crater lake amid the deep snow on top of Mt Ruapehu. Finally, the national championship jumps and downhill speed trials are shown.
