What is panettone and where to get it

What in the world is panettone? Our specialty foods & cheese curator, John Nava, will tell you! While some may have dried fruits in the, it's not a fruit cake! It's a domed, sweet bread which originated in Italy that's traditionally served during the holidays. Some are filled with cream and dried fruits, some are filled with chocolate and nuts, with more chocolate on top. There are so many from which to choose, and Sigona's typically carries more than 20 different varieties during the winter holidays, including two made just for Sigona's by Sogno Toscano in Italy. One is filled with Prosecco cream and the other has maraschino syrup, tart cherries and chocolate chips. It's incredibly moist and perfect for dessert, when served with something bubbly or a shot of espresso.
