Newborn babies do not have the full visual capacity to see objects and colors. They will slowly develop their vision as they grow. Newborns can only focus on objects which are around 8 to 12 inches away from them, and they can just see black, white, and gray. So, newborns are not sensitive to colors, but they would be attracted by black and white images. Black-and-white high-contrast images are essential for young babies because the images can stimulate their vision and help the development of their eyes and brains. Engagement with contrasting images and shapes can also boost newborns to learn and focus.
