Welcome to the channel! I'm Ishaan, a PhD grad student and I love to ponder on:
Mysteries of the universe
Space through the different lenses of science (bio, chem, physics, etc.)
Life on Earth and beyond
Human space exploration and future habitations

Here's my journey through the world of science so far:

Age 9: Staring at the moon from my balcony in New Delhi, I was captivated by the mysteries of the night sky. I told my mom, “I want to work for NASA".

13: Moved from India to New York City. Watching my parents work tirelessly pushed me to find solace in academics, where I discovered a passion for the sciences (bio + chem + physics).

14-18: High school was about adaptation. I focused on excelling academically with co-curriculars to secure a college scholarship. I nurtured my love for science, taking every opportunity to explore it despite the challenges of fitting in.

18: Entered college with a plan to pursue pre-med, following what seemed like the practical path for a child of brown immigrants. But curiosity led me in different directions, and I began taking on research projects that eventually realigned me with my fascination for space exploration.

18-22: College was a time of exploration and growth. I worked on projects across planetary science, astronomy, and biology. Mapping topographic features on Enceladus, developing light curves for binary star systems, and researching zebrafish heart regeneration - all these experiences showed me the vastness of science. I also began to develop a specific interest in astrobiology, which fused my love for chemistry and space sciences. Presenting my independent project on Titan's surface at AGU and winning the Barry Goldwater Scholarship were turning points that reaffirmed my commitment to planetary science.

22-24: After graduating, I joined a healthcare software company and found myself in a stable, well-paying job. However, the stability didn’t fulfill me. During this time, I also started exploring spirituality more deeply and came to understand that my true passion lay elsewhere. I left my job and decided to return to the world of research.

24: Spent the summer in Sweden on a research fellowship, exploring non-carbon biopolymers in Venus's atmosphere. Now, I'm pursuing a PhD in planetary sciences, combining my love for space exploration with my growing interest in computational modeling (AI/ML) and thermochemistry.

My journey has been anything but straightforward, from staring at the moon as a curious child to collaborating on cutting-edge research in planetary science.
