Presentation made to PNW Section SRM on 3/3/22: The Influence of Grazing and Weather on Sagebrush Country Birds

Presenter Vanessa Schroeder is a faculty research assistant at Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center-Burns, which is in the heart of Oregons’s sagebrush country. She holds a master’s degree in Wildlife Science from OSU.

Vanessa’s work is collaborative with OSU Extension’s Sagebrush Habitat Team. It includes stakeholder-driven applied research and education and outreach.

Currently she is assessing:
effects of juniper encroachment and removal on multiple wildlife species in the Steens Mountains area
quantifying effects of grazing on sagebrush ecosystems and associated wildlife, of which we will hear more about shortly

Vanessa’s recent extension projects include:

development of Threat Based Land Management tools for use in Greater Sage-grouse Candidate Conservation Agreements with Assurances
Editing partnership with OSU, SageCon and High Desert Partnership to publish an 11 article special issue in the journal Rangelands focusing on barriers and opportunities for addressing invasive annual grasses in the Great Basin
