As the holiday shopping season enters its final days before Christmas, small businesses in Stockton are hoping to capture a share of increased consumer spending. While malls and big box stores draw heavy crowds, locally owned shops along Pacific Avenue’s Miracle Mile are seeing customers who value community and personal service.
Business owners say the holidays, especially Small Business Saturday, are among the most important times of the year. According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, nearly four in five small businesses say the holiday season is critical, and an American Express survey found owners expect a significant portion of annual revenue from that shopping weekend alone. Customers shopping local say supporting neighborhood businesses keeps money in the community and helps sustain what makes their neighborhoods unique.
