"(The train of) negotiations over the removal of sanctions has reached its difficult and almost final stations, and sometimes it's necessary that we consider stopping at a station for a few days."

Right now, along with other participants who signed this plan, we have been making efforts for some time aimed at correcting the mistake made by the United States - which I'm convinced of - when the U.S. pulled out of that deal, pulled out of the corresponding resolution by the U.N. Council, yet again violating their obligations to international law. We will fight for the (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) JCPOA to be reinstated in its original form - the way it was approved in 2015 by a U.N. Security Council resolution without any omissions or additions. And for all the unlawful anti-Iranian sanctions in violation of JCPOA to be overturned. We hope that Washington makes a rational choice even though we have no confidence in it."

STORYLINE:
At a joint briefing in Tehran on Thursday, Iran and Russia both urged the United States to return to the 2015 nuclear accord.
The landmark accord, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), had granted Iran sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said "unlawful anti-Iranian sanctions in violation of JCPOA" must be lifted.
He made the comments at a joint press conference in Tehran with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian.
Amirabdollahian called on U.S to be "realistic, so that we can reach the final stage of negotiations."
Talks over the revival of the tattered 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers have stalled for months.
Former President Donald Trump pulled America out of the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, re-imposed sanctions and also introduced new, tougher measures against Tehran in 2018.
"The trend carried over to this year and we will do everything to keep it up," he said.
