On May 3rd, The Straus Center hosted an evening tour and lecture at the Yeshiva University Museum. The theme of the evening was "If I Forget Thee: Yizkor, Yerushalayim and the Jewish Concept of Memory". The evening began with a tour led by Rabbi Dr. Meir Soloveichik of Jewish artwork and images of Jerusalem in a special Yeshiva University Museum exhibition, City of Gold, Bronze and Light: Jerusalem between Word and Image. The exhibition features incredible art works in various media from the past four centuries – paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, medals, and architectural models – all depicting Jerusalem.
The tour was then followed by a special shiur within the exhibition galleries by the Chief Rabbi of South Africa, Rabbi Warren Goldstein, who delivered the Rabbi Allan Mirvis Memorial Lecture on the topic of Spiritual Entrepreneurship: Leadership Principles for Rebuilding Jerusalem and Redeeming the World. Rabbi Goldstein is a noted speaker and scholar, who is both a Dayan and a PhD in Human Rights and International Law. He was the youngest chief rabbi ever to be appointed to that position, and since then has represented the South African Jewish community and the broader Jewish community with remarkable wisdom and compassion.
