A local news stream reported the story, “In the mid-1980s, Louisiana’s economy suffered a severe blow. Despite being employed, Lawrence Menard (affectionately known as Uncle Brud) and Robert Cormier needed additional income. They met in an empty parking lot in Scott, Louisiana, to discuss new possibilities. This deserted lot would soon turn into The Best Stop Supermarket.” It opened its doors on November 1, 1986. Today the fruit of that fanciful discussion is represented in an impressive, buzzing home site and bustling industrial plant serving local and international clients as well as satellite locations in Louisiana and Texas.

Lawrence and Robert, along with Mrs. Jerry Prejean Hovatta, worked relentlessly to develop a basic menu of boudin, cracklins, sausage, specialty meats, and cajun seasonings recipes, praying the rosary for it every day. The goal and mission was straightforward when The Best Stop Supermarket was created: the mission was to provide the best specialty meats in Louisiana while the goal was to bring into being a brand that their families could be proud of. A generation later, both have been achieved. “The Best Stop not only serves the local community in and around Scott, but they also provide their award-winning meats to online and wholesale shoppers across the country.”

According to news coverage, “You can fool most people, most of the time,’ said Cormier, “but you can’t fool their taste buds. If they like something, they’ll come back.”

Interestingly, The Louisiana Department of Athletics, Ragin’ Cajuns Sports Properties (RCSP) and The Best Stop Supermarket reported having linked up for a partnership that will make the Cajun grocery store the official boudin provider of the Ragin’ Cajuns, the ball club at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

“A staple in Acadiana since 1986, The Best Stop has been serving up classic Cajun meats for Ragin’ Cajuns fans and will continue to be a proud supporter of the Department of Athletics with the agreement.” The press release noted, "We are excited to announce this one-of-a-kind partnership with The Best Stop as our official boudin partner." Best Stop Cajun Markets, “The small country store that’s produced the best Boudin and Cajun specialty meats since 1986.”
