For me, this game is pretty tough. I didn't get to play it as a kid but thanks to the Cinemaware Anthology, I'm getting to try some really cool games I missed.

Wings is an impressive game for 1990. It has 3D dogfights as well as overhead shooter sections in the style of a Schmup. You create a rookie pilot and work your way up the ranks by completing random missions. Sometimes you are strafing infantry and ground targets, others you are firing on enemy balloons and planes. Like real life you can only die once and then its game over.

I don't have much to say in the way of complaints. The dogfighting does run a little slow but for the time its frankly amazing. I was still playing NES games in 1990 and seeing this back then would have blown my little mind. I can see why people speak so fondly of this game even after all these years. Plus there's not a huge amount of WW1 flight games out there so it fills a niche.

After playing this I went and got the Remastered version as well. It is also really fun and challenging but with the added benefit of more modern controls. Both Wings Remastered and the Cinemaware Anthology are for purchase on Steam.
