The Parachute Adams fly is the most popular dry fly in the world and for good reason. It floats really well, is quite visible on top of the water due to the tuft of material for the post, mimics an emerging and adult mayfly quite well, along with other bug species, and is fairly easy to tie once you get the hang of tying a post.

Now these I feel mimics an emerger a bit better than a full adult, because it sits a bit lower in the water. The whole body hangs down below the water film and just the post sits on top. This gives the illusion of a mayfly or some other bug trying to emerge out of its pupa stage. That being said, you can still fool trout quite well that are focused on adult mayflies.

These can be tied in any color you want, basically the Parachute Adams is just a particular color scheme of a parachute fly. Try tying these in other colors as well to match whatever hatch is going on at your local river. Do you have mostly Blue Wing Olives? Then tie these with a light olive body and gray hackle. Midge hatches? Tie them all black, or black body with grizzly hackle for a mosquito. The Adams color is the most popular as it seems to be a good general purpose fly that works for most hatches, but its a bit harder to tie given you need two different hackles (if you don't want to fork up big money for a Cree cape). So if you can tie the Parachute Adams, then all other standard parachute style flies will go a bit easier for you.
