As a young child Darcey Bussel attended dance classes and took part in sports. Although ballet hadn't been her favourite pastime as a youngster she continued lessons and slowly grew to excel at it and successfully auditioned for White Lodge the Royal Ballet school.

She was unique in her ability to perform both traditional roles like Swan Lake and Neo Classical ballets such as Balanchine's Apollo. But choreographers often struggled to find partners for Darcey Bussel who would match her ability and magnetism.

She spent the later part of her career dancing with Italian Roberto Bolle and after dancing professionally since the age of 16 at 38 Darcey danced her final performance in Kenneth Macmillan's contemporary ballet Song of the Earth.

To this day Ballet enthusiasts long to see a British Ballerina of the caliber of Darcey Bussel and she leaves a legacy of naturalism grace and power in the dance industry.
