This video covers the Dominant 7th type chord voicings up to the 13th on the 1236 string family on A. The related chords are Emin7, Emin6/C#min7b5 and Gmaj7 type sounds as well as voicings which include both the 3rd and 4th of the chord including traditional suspended fourth chords. The basic resolutions are demonstrated moving to D and Ab.

This string set yields a wide variety of voicings and has the sound of a distinct "chord and bass note" type arrangement as there is a great deal of interval and range distance between the top three strings and the lowest string making it effective for accompaniment styles and for a thick resonant sound in solo or group playing, especially in a trio setting. This particular string set was preferred by the great Dennis Sandole and I remember him telling me that it facilitated a "Guitarist and Bassist two at once" duo sound and also special thanks to the great Tom Giacabetti for getting me started on these. These voicings can be viewed in a similar fashion as the 1234 string set only with the lowest tone on the 4th string lowered by an octave and placed on the 6th string.

Voicings will begin on the notes in the chord and others within the scale as applicable to project a Min 7th chord family type sound. This string set has a very unique sound and enables the Guitar to resonate in a strong manner due to the presence of one very low note and three very high ones.

This string set can yield chords which sound very "big", clear, and resonant and can be challenging for the development of advanced fretting-hand technique. The string set favours fifth and fourth type intervals generally and the voicings demonstrated exploit that as well as the various more "closed" type voicings that are possible as well on the top three strings.
