A lot of boilerplate device on delegation tells you to always delegate, get stuff off your plate, but I think you can take this too far, and I have friends who I see slow down in the growth of their company because they’re working to some dogma that the founder “shouldn’t do anything” and “should delegate everything”.

Often SALES is the thing that it makes sense for founders to hold onto for the longest, and when I see founders delegating sales, it’s usually because they don’t know how to keep improving… so they just default to hiring because it’s the easy option.

Email is another one – who can I get to write email? But if email is what brings in the money, why are you handing it off?

So, it’s important to keep a clear view of where the high-value activities are in your business, and making sure you don’t just delegate out of some dogma that you keep seeing parroted around on social media.
