USAID Kenya, in collaboration with the County Government of Isiolo and development partners has launched two vital water projects at Attan and Aroo area in Isiolo county.

USAID Kenya and East Africa Mission Director David Gosney and Isiolo County Deputy Governor Dr. James Lowasa, officially launched the two water projects together with Partnership for Resilience and Economic Growth (PREG) partners in the region.

The Attan Multiple Use System project is a collaborative project implemented by USAID Nawiri, NRT, COPAD, JKUAT CETCIL Project, and Plant Village. The project includes the development of a high-yielding borehole equipped with a solar pumping system, the construction of an irrigation system consisting of 100m³ elevated storage tank, and 2.5 acre irrigated farm, community and livestock water supply systems including 50m3 tank and domestic and livestock water points, and the establishment of a Community Centre of Innovation (CCI). These initiatives aim to improve community water access, enhance agricultural productivity, and support sustainable livelihoods.

The Aroo Multiple Use System project focuses on improving water supply for domestic use and agricultural activities. Key components include drilling and developing a borehole, extending a 2.2 km water pipeline, constructing a 50 m³ elevated steel tank, and establishing a community water point, a 2-acre irrigated farm, two water kiosks, and three livestock troughs. The project also supports various community groups in implementing integrated livelihood and health activities, promoting food security and nutritional diversity.

These projects have significantly impacted local communities by enhancing water access, improving agricultural practices, and fostering economic stability. Through USAID Nawiri’s integrated approach, communities in Isiolo, Marsabit, Turkana, and Samburu have benefited from improved nutrition, increased agricultural productivity, and strengthened resilience against environmental challenges.
