"Cultures in the Crossfade" explores the concept of the crossfader in DJ mixing as a metaphor for blending differences without erasing them, a crucial idea in today's divided and polarized society. By toggling between two music input channels without fully fading out either, the crossfader exemplifies how we can combine and sustain diverse perspectives, fostering connection without diminishing individuality.

In Houston, Texas, the most diverse city in America continues to be reshaped in the face of a larger statewide turn against ethnic studies, trans rights, and immigrant communities. Here, Palestinian-American singer Taleen is in the mix with trans Mexican-American MC and vocalist Uncle Tino.

Developed by USC Professor Josh Kun and filmmaker Matthew Beighley with support from the Omidyar Network, "Cultures in the Crossfade" is a multi-episode video series that brings the crossfader to life as a model for navigating cultural change and political division in urban communities. This series highlights how local social life is being reshaped, showcasing the power of blending cultures while preserving their unique voices.
