Описание к видео 12 Valve Cummins LAZY TRANS FIXED! 518 auto- band adjustment, raise line pressure, and shift points.

Johnny Cash is coming along nicely! But the trans seemed really lazy and soft. I was reading on Diesel Truck Source forum, and it seemed to be a common issue with these early Cummins powered trucks. So, after doing some research I decided we needed to adjust the bands and raise the shift points and line pressure. The band adjustment is actually something that’s called for in the factory service manual according to the internet. The transmission pan has leaked since I changed the fluid and filter the first time. I would not recommend a rubber pan gasket. I ended up getting a paper gasket (Fel-Pro 18583) later on from O'Rielly Autoparts and it fixed the problem. Thats in a later video but I thought I'd go ahead and share the info for anyone doing this. I also run ATF +4 in this 518 automatic transmission. Which is basically a 727 with overdrive. There are 2 bands to adjust the front band and the rear band. You will need a torque wrench that will do 6 ftlbs or 72 inlbs. I had to borrow one for this, ours starts at 10 ftlbs. Also, you will need a 5/16ths 8 point or square drive sockets. The other tools you will need will be a 3/16ths allen wrench that you don't mind cutting down, a T25 hex, 11/16ths, and 3/4 wrenches. The pan bolts were a 13mm. I added a bung and drain plug to the factory transmission pan which has made all of this much easier. You loosen the jam nuts on the band adjustment and torque the square bolt to 6 ftlbs. On the front band after you torque it, you back it off 2.5 turns and tighten the jam nut. On the rear band adjustment after you torque it, you back it off 2 turns and tighten the jam nut. The shift points allen screw turn clockwise 1.5 full turns. The line pressure screw turns counterclockwise, I went 2 full turns in this video and went back later and went another full turn. Put the truck back together, filled it with fluid, and topped it off warm idling in neutral. Then went for a rip and the test drive was fantastic! Felt like a completely different transmission!

Well, yall just what we needed... another project. But this one was a good deal I promise. Just like the last one was. I actually bought this truck from a really good friend of mine. He bought it from another fella, who bought it from the folks that were building it and from what I can tell it's been sitting outside since then. I had to go to Childersburg, Alabama to pick the truck and parts up. Gonna try and get it running and driving and figure out more about the truck.

The paperwork on the truck is from Indiana and calls it a 1940 Chevy truck. I believe the grill and fenders are a 1940 to maybe a 1947 Dodge truck. The chassis is a 1993 Dodge D350 5.9 liter 12 valve cummins. Its an automatic and its 2wd dually. Someone suicided the doors on the cab, its got a tilt steering column and a B&M ratchet shifter.
