Iran and Palestine condemned the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, chief of the Palestinian Hamas militant group, in Tehran on 31 July.

Iranian Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani denounced the act at a UN Security Council emergency meeting, calling it part of Israel’s terrorism against Palestinians and an attempt to disrupt Iran’s new government.

Iravani urged the UN to condemn Israel for this violation of international law and Iran's sovereignty.

The Palestinian deputy permanent observer to the UN also condemned the assassination, accusing Israel of oppressing Palestinians and destabilizing the region for decades.

The deputy called on the Security Council to take decisive action to maintain international peace and security.
