17th of March 1778: The Kingdom of Great Britain, in response to the newly-signed Franco-American Treaty of Alliance, declares war upon France. This leads to French intervention in the American War of Independence, which brings victory to the rebels. However, France goes bankrupt because of the great financial expense of its intervention.

Marche Henri IV was written in the 1590s in praise of King Henri IV of France, who brought an end to the French Wars of Religion, started France's colonial empire and became the first and only Protestant King of France (although he converted to Catholicism later). He was murdered in 1610 by François Ravaillac, a Catholic extremist. This song was very popular in monarchist circles during the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. French revolutionaries created their own parody versions, and the song was especially popular in Russia during Napoleon's retreat from Moscow in 1812.
