Denis Pagan took up horse training at the age of 73. Within 6 months he achieved one of the most remarkable victories in the history of Australia's oldest racing classic, the AAMI Victoria Derby, with the 2020 win by Johnny Get Angry.

Troy Corstens, the trainer who mentored Pagan, and Joe Agresta, former track rider for Bart Cummings, both helped and mentored Denis on his journey to become a trainer.

Lachie King, the jockey on Johnny Get Angry, had never won a Group 1 race before.

Denis Pagan is a dual AFL premiership winning coach with North Melbourne Football Club.
