Описание к видео With the Land

In the face of a changing climate, discover how a passionate group of Anishinaabek youth are revitalizing cultural practices and traditions as a form of cultural resilience and adaptation to climate change. “With the Land” follows Dawson Bidwayodaam Bloor, a member of Wasauksing First Nation and a founding member of the Georgian Bay Anishinaabek Youth (GBAY), as he participates in a hide tanning camp. Dawson says: “Our understanding of how to utilize the animals like we’re doing today, or how to utilize the plants, how to utilize the land and how to read the land, and how to be on the land, really in itself was taking care of Mother Earth in the way she needed to be taken care of.” He points to the many impacts of climate change and shows how his generation is reconnecting with traditional practices. Anishinaabek youth are empowering themselves to learn old ways as a form of climate action that takes care of Mother Earth.

“With the Land” is one of several videos in a State of the Bay series highlighting inspiring examples of caretaking and conservation research happening across eastern Georgian Bay, led by local youth. It is part of the Georgian Bay Mnidoo Gamii Biosphere’s “State of the Bay” program that brings together multiple sources of information to communicate environmental changes in eastern Georgian Bay or Mnidoo-gamii, Great Lake of the Spirit.

Filming for this video took place on Anishinaabek territory and within Robinson-Huron Treaty (1850) and Williams Treaty (1923) lands.
