The Shanghai Tourism Festival was founded in 1990. The event lasts for more than 20 days and covers nearly 40 projects in several major categories such as sightseeing, leisure, entertainment, culture and sports, exhibitions, food, shopping, etc., attracting more than 8 million tourists every year.
The Shanghai Tourism Festival is co-sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau and the Shanghai Municipal Commerce Commission. It is the largest and most influential large-scale tourism festival in China.
The Shanghai Tourism Festival is positioned as "a festival for the people" and with the theme of "Entering Beauty and Joy". It attracts strong support and extensive participation from all walks of life through colorful and distinctive festival activities in various districts and counties in Shanghai. The Shanghai Tourism Festival has become a symbol of Shanghai's construction of a world-famous tourism city. Traditional activities include the Shanghai Tourism Festival float parade, micro tour of Shanghai, etc.; a tourism experience that combines sightseeing, leisure, entertainment, culture and sports, exhibitions, food, and shopping. As well as nearly a hundred festival activities in which citizens participate, the infinite charm of Shanghai’s urban scenery, urban culture and urban humanity in all four seasons is demonstrated to domestic and overseas audiences.

上海旅游节创办于1990年，活动历时二十余天，涵盖了观光、休闲、娱乐、文体、会展、美食、购物等几个大类近四十多个项目，每年吸引游客超800万人次。
上海旅游节是由上海市文化和旅游局、上海市商务委员会共同主办的，是国内规模最大，最具城市影响力的大型旅游节庆活动。
上海旅游节以“人民大众的节日”为定位，以“走进美好与欢乐”为主题，通过丰富多彩、各具特色的上海各区县节庆活动，吸引社会各界的大力支持和广泛参与。上海旅游节已成为上海建设世界著名旅游城市节庆盛典的标志，其中传统活动有上海旅游节花车巡游，微游上海等；结合观光、休闲、娱乐、文体、会展、美食、购物于一体的旅游体验以及近百项市民参与的节庆活动，向海内外集中展现了四季上海都市风光、都市文化和都市人文的无穷魅力。
