Hi guys! Excited to share my very positive home birth story with you guys, as a first time mom. Here’s a timeline of my labor:


4AM• I woke up thinking I had food poisoning. I went to the toilet to “cleanse” myself.
4:30AM• Tried to lay back down in bed & just could not get comfy so I went back to the toilet to set up a dilation station. Sat there for an hour. contractions were 5 minutes apart. 30 seconds long
5:30• went downstairs to spare bedroom. I just wanted to lay on the floor. There’s an amazing rug down there that was HEAVEN SENT. I stacked 4 pillows & did child’s pose over them. Riding the waves of contractions every 5 minutes trying to “sleep” in between.
8AM• I texted my midwife to let her know I was feelings “crampy”. Mind you- this whole time I just thought I had food poisoning LOL. I was in complete disbelief I was in labor since my due date wasn’t until December 18th.
11:30AM• I got into the shower with a chair & sat there letting the hot water fall on me as I hummed through my contractions which were about 3 minutes apart now
1PM• ran out of hot water. But I still wanted to be in water as things were picking up fast so DeVory boiled a ton of water & took it upstairs into the bath for me.
1:30PM• I was in the tub. I was definitely in labor. I had affirmations sounding off in my head on repeat. “I can do this. I am doing this. I will do this.” I attribute my success through actual labor to these affirmations & just letting my brain leave my body.
3:30PM• I could NOT be in the water anymore. I was entering transition. Contractions a minute apart. 45 seconds long. I somehow managed to get to our bed across the hall.
3:35PM• My mind was in a complete blurred space. I was in complete “✨labor land✨”. I didn’t know it at the time, but my water & mucus plug had popped when I got out of the bath. While I was in our bed I reached down to check myself. As soon as I saw my plug on my hands I SCREAMED for DeVory to “CALL THE MIDWIFE”. He did. She was on her way.
3:50PM• squeezing my husbands hands half to death with my legs up on the wall, I could feel our sons head descending. Contractions were back to back. No breaks. I was ROARING at this point. I remember checking myself & I felt his head. Right there! I whispered to DeVory “I can feel his head”.
4:00PM• Midwife comes running into the house & up the stairs. She takes one look at me & jokes “well you’re definitely in labor” (her & I had some inside jokes about not knowing my actual due date). I smiled at her for a second until the next contraction hit. She assured me she could see a “big head of hair” & told me, “when you get a chance, get on your hands & knees.” As SOON as my second knee hit the bed, our son came flying out.
4:04PM• the Darkins family legend officially began. Our first child, was here.

Born safely. Born at home. We did it!
