Montagnana: A Medieval Town in Italy

Montagnana is a small medieval town in northern Italy, near Padua. The town was built in the 14th century and was ruled by Venice for many years. It has kept its old medieval look better than most places in Europe.

Montagnana has amazing medieval walls that go all around the town. The walls are 2 kilometers long with 24 towers and 4 gates. They are some of the best-kept medieval walls in Europe. You can walk around the whole wall in about 50 minutes. Visitors can climb the Ezzelino tower to see great views of the town and countryside.

The Cathedral was built between 1431-1502 and mixes Gothic and Renaissance styles. Inside, you can see beautiful paintings and a marble altar. Villa Pisani-Placco is a famous palace built by the architect Palladio for a rich Venetian family. The Town Hall was built by Michele Sanmicheli, a famous architect from Verona.

Montagnana is easy to reach by car or train from Padua (23 miles away) or Bologna (45 miles away). Walk around the walls, visit the cathedral, and explore the old town center with its porticoed streets and main square. Spring and fall have nice weather for walking, while summer has local festivals. Climbing the tower costs 1.50 euros.
