A cab ride view from KiwiRail DXB 5080 passing through the Dashwood Pass from the southern entrance of the pass near Seddon to just short of Vernon.

For those American railfans watching the DXB is a modified General Electric U26C, fitted with a turbocharged GE 7FDL-12 prime-mover.
Due to the fact this one was towing a steam train that was virtually empty you don't really get to hear it working. But I do have a clip of another class member ringing its lungs out here:-    • KiwiRail DXC 5379 powering away from ...  

This was recorded on the last day of Steam Incorporated's Centennial Railtour with Ab 608, we had to be towed from Waipara back to Picton because there weren't any KiwiRail crew avaliable to crew the Ab. But that didn't mean the Ab wasn't in light steam, keep an ear out just after the 12:25 mark, you might just happen to hear the whistle 😄

Sorry about the shakiness of the video. I had to stand up in the cab and I didn't have a tripod with me. My arms were killing me by the end of it 😅
So unfortunately this is as good as I've been able to get it. Hope you enjoy this video anyway 🙂
