This video visualizes Street Fighter 6 character popularity (usage rate) based on official data from the game's release up to September 2025. Additionally, patch updates (Battle Change List) are included as extra info, as they can influence how the data shifts over time.

At the Master Rank level, we can see how characters with Modern controls, which are often considered beginner-friendly, are being used in high-level play.

In the early period after launch, Marisa sat at the top, with Luke closely following. Both characters consistently accounted for around 15–20% of overall usage, clearly separating themselves from the rest of the roster. Over time, Luke’s popularity steadily increased, eventually overtaking Marisa, and he went on to dominate the top spot for nearly the entire remaining period.

This trend suggests that both characters have strong compatibility with Modern controls, performing reliably even within the highly competitive Master Rank environment. Other characters such as Ed, Ken, Cammy, and Mai also tend to rank relatively high, which may indicate similarly strong Modern suitability.

On the other hand, characters like Dee Jay and Guile frequently remain near the lower end of the rankings. This may be due to the fact that charge characters generally have lower synergy with Modern controls. Dhalsim and JP also tend to stay near the bottom, possibly suggesting that when played with Modern controls, these characters can be more difficult to handle effectively at higher ranks like Master.

With Modern controls, command-grab characters often feel especially strong in lower ranks below Master. At the Master level, while their usage is slightly lower compared to top-tier characters like Luke, they still maintain a solid presence. Zangief and Lily, in particular, frequently appear in the mid to upper range as the timeline progresses.
By contrast, Manon does not see the same rise in usage, which may indicate that—even among command-grab characters—she has more pronounced weaknesses or usability challenges when played with Modern controls.
