Описание к видео Your Complete Guide to the NCLEX

Becoming a licensed nurse in the U.S., Canada, or Australia requires passing a critical examination: the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). This video provides a comprehensive overview of the NCLEX, covering everything from its purpose and format to registration, results, and essential study strategies!

The NCLEX is developed and owned by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). Its primary purpose is to ensure public safety by evaluating whether nursing candidates possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential for safe and effective entry-level nursing practice.
There are two main types of the exam:
• NCLEX-RN for Registered Nurses
• NCLEX-PN for Practical or Vocational Nurses

Exam Format & Scoring: Since 1994, the NCLEX has been administered using a Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) format through Pearson VUE centers. This means the computer selects questions based on your previous answers, making each exam unique and tailored to your ability.

The exam typically includes a minimum of 70 to a maximum of 135 scored questions, plus 15 unscored pre-test items, all to be completed within a five-hour limit. A major evolution occurred on April 1, 2023, with the launch of the Next Generation NCLEX (NGN). The NGN places greater emphasis on clinical judgment and decision-making abilities through innovative item types and a new polytomous scoring method that allows for partial credit on certain questions. The passing standard is not a fixed percentage but a pre-established ability level, reevaluated by the NCSBN Board of Directors every three years.

Registration & Results: The NCLEX registration is a two-step process: first, applying for licensure with your desired Nursing Regulatory Body (NRB), and then registering with Pearson VUE and paying the exam fee. Once both steps are complete and the NRB declares you eligible, you'll receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) email, which is valid for a specified period (often around 90 days). Official results are sent by your NRB within six weeks of your exam date. Some states offer a "Quick Results" service for unofficial results within two business days. If you don't pass, you'll receive an NCLEX Candidate Performance Report (CPR) to guide your next study efforts. You can retake the NCLEX up to eight times per year, with a mandatory 45-day test-free period between attempts, though some jurisdictions may have stricter limits.

Keys to Success:
• Avoid cramming: Consistent study over time is more effective than last-minute preparation.
• Master test strategy: Understand how to approach different question types and manage your time effectively.
• Familiarize yourself with CAT & NGN formats: Practice with adaptive exams and new item types to reduce test-day anxiety.
• Focus on weak areas: Don't avoid challenging topics; tackling them head-on is crucial for comprehensive preparation.
• Use up-to-date, trusted resources: Ensure your study materials align with the current NGN format and content.

NCLEX pass rates vary by candidate type; for example, in early 2025, the first-time U.S.-educated NCLEX-RN pass rate was 88.8%. Proper preparation significantly increases your chances of passing on the first attempt.
