Honestly, this is a pretty cool campaign!

There's a lot of variety in objectives, and the bonus objectives really feel worthwhile unlike some other campaigns where it's just a couple hundreds of resources when you've already macroed a Post Imperial economy. The first level has a neat "micro" stage to get minor advantages before you start, though it's marred by the low population limit and being limited to Castle Age. The second level encourages aggression and trade offs, and gives you a good feel for how the civilization works. I really liked the third level where you can choose what bonus objectives to do to win the level, so you get to choose how to win, which is basically unheard of in an RTS. The fourth level has some very unique mechanics that are kind of hit or miss, but also encourages a full 200 population, no macro deathmatch in less than 30 minutes, which is extremely unique in an AoE2 campaign. And this fifth level is really neat in that you get a constantly replenishing allied navy to control without having to worry too much about the naval yourself(but you still should, of course), with allies that actually put in some work. I'm a sucker for any RTS levels that give you a competent ally you don't need to baby but who also won't win the scenario straight up for you.

The narrative part of the campaign is a classic story about our feudal protagonist learning what it takes to succeed in the Feudal Era that kind of reminds me of a darker version of A Princess Bride with his relationship to his dad. I really like how the level design emphasizes the story when you pay attention, and I was definitely getting a bit invested. I think the difficulty is just right where it's not too difficult that it's unwinnable for an above average RTSer wanting to test their skills, but also not easy enough that you can slack off. I think the devs did a good job on this campaign, and I'd give it a solid 9/10! I kind of wish they had a 6th level where he manages to successfully eke out a bit of his childish naivety and you're rewarded in it for being "good", but I think that might also ruin the overall tone/narrative they've created. On to the next game!
