I didn't come up with this strat, I forget who did, sorry. The original version recommended using one of the frost wing bosses as the transfer kill though, I timed each wing and found that Lanathiel was faster.

This strategy doesn't seem to work in any other raid. Cataclysm and Pandaria raids (other than Firelands) won't let you enter an instance of a different difficulty if you have an active lock AND will update your Normal lock if someone else kills a boss in it.
