The Allett Scarifier Cartridge for the Allett Stirling

The Scarifier cartridge is composed of thin springs that spin at high speeds ideal for collecting leaves and debris from the surface of the grass and depositing them into the grass box. Its main purpose however is to reduce thatch and moss on the lawn. Thatch, the dead material beneath the grass, creates a spongy feel and absorbs water and nutrients preventing deep root growth. By reducing the thatch layer water is encouraged to penetrate deeper promoting healthier grass with deeper roots especially beneficial during drought conditions.
Additionally, the close spacing of the Scarifier's tines helps comb the grass upright resulting in a more uniform and attractive cut. The frequency of scarification depends on the amount of thatch and your lawn's production rate while setting the depth is determined by personal preference and the amount of material you can handle. Mowing before scarifying allows for deeper penetration and better collection while mowing after scarifying helps neaten up the finish and allows you to cut any grass lifted up by the scarifiers spring tines.
