Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the Hunter and Upper Hunter lockdown will be extended for a week after a number of cases were detected in the area.

“In terms of regional New South Wales, pleasingly Armidale, Tamworth and Northern Rivers continue to have zero cases which is a positive sign,” she said.

“Unfortunately, the same isn't the case for Hunter and New England where there’s been a number of cases overnight, and as a response to that NSW Health has recommended that those local government areas which are currently in lockdown including the Hunter and the Upper Hunter areas will be extended by another week.

“So rather than coming out of lockdown tomorrow, that will be extended another week given the additional number of cases.

“I think given what the area is experiencing the community would understand why that is the case.”
