Welcome to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! This week we got an up close and personal experience at one of the world’s biggest parties: CARNIVAL! This lively, colorful, and loud tradition originated in Rio de Janeiro, and today we’re giving you a look at all that goes into this long running tradition. Every year samba schools from around Rio practice extreme and elaborate choreographed shows that they’ll perform to compete for a slot in the main Rio Carnival event. We learned so much about the history of the event, samba, and the work that goes into making this event happen. Carnival is SO MUCH more than just a party– it’s tradition, culture, and heritage, and seeing the way the communities come alive for their friends and families in the samba schools was so special.
