We are delighted to invite you to the Geneva Security Debate on How AI will transform the world: The need for a new strategic compass!

The mainstream AI debate is dominated by futuristic visions of utopia or dystopia. Several governments are interested in its use to facilitate political control or military dominance. Unsurprisingly, for multiple states, especially great powers, AI is an existential priority. Meanwhile, the possibility of China overtaking the US in the strategic application of AI is nothing short of an obsession for Washington. Advanced countries now see AI and associated technologies as their preeminent task, as do the Big Techs.

Accordingly, AI is increasingly framed as a ‘winner takes all’ struggle for planetary dominance. Although most of these stakeholders have expressed a commitment to regulation to ensure ‘AI for Good’, the global governance discourse remains challenging.

Thousands of researchers and tech wizards have published an open letter in March 2023 calling to slow down the Artificial Intelligence race. AI is arriving in a world that is witnessing competing regulatory frameworks. Therefore, we will debate on how to promote ‘safe AI’ and ‘Responsible AI’ before it is too late - by leveraging the global community of AI actors to ensure a future where AI technology empowers us as individuals and enriches not disrupts our societies and ultimately leaves no one behind.
