FMV STORY:
One day Taki Tachibana, a high school boy in Tokyo, inexplicably began to switch bodies intermittently with one girl - Mitsuha Miyamizu. She lived in the rural town, but Taki didn't know its name. They eventually realized they can communicate with each other, by recording messages on paper, phones and each other's skin. They became friends.
One day, Taki (in Mitsuha's body) have accompanied Mitsuha's grandmother and her sister to leave the ritual alcohol kuchikamizake, made by the sisters, as an offering to the Shinto shrine on a mountaintop located outside the town.
Mitsuha started writing her notes in Taki's phone, when she was him.
Taki read a note about the comet, expected to pass Earth on the day of the autumn festival. The next day, Taki woke up in his body and he lived another day. Suddenly the body-switching ended.
Taki realized that he needs to find Mitsuha and her town. With his friends he traveled by train. Taki relied on sketches he has made of the surrounding landscape from his memory. A restaurant owner in Hida, who is originally from Itomori, recognized one of Taki's sketches. He took Taki and his friends to the town, which was now destroyed by a meteor three years earlier. In a local library Taki found Mitsuha's name in the record of fatalities and was shocked. He embarked to the shrine where left (in Mitsuha's body) the ritual alcohol kuchikamizake. In desperation, he drank the drink and unexpectedly found himself on the border of the worlds, where he met the deceased Mitsuha.
The sun was setting... In surprise friends approached each other. Taki wrote one thing he wanted to say her all this time, on her hand (as they did earlier) and gave a pen to Mitsuha, but suddenly... she dissappeared.
