The US Justice Department on October 28, 2020, charged eight people with involvement in “Operation Fox Hunt”, which it says is the Chinese government’s campaign to crack down on dissenters living in the US. John Demers, the US assistant attorney general for national security, said five of those arrested, including three Chinese nationals, were in the United States. Three others also face charges in the case, but US law enforcement officials say they remain at large and are believed to have returned to China.
