The Public Gallery: Episode 1 - Meet the Gallery

Описание к видео The Public Gallery: Episode 1 - Meet the Gallery

Welcome to the Public Gallery - a new limited podcast series from Paul... The Other One in the lead up to the 2023 General Election in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We've bought together 6 ordinary Kiwis from around the motu to see how much attention they're paying to this years campaigns, how well messages are hitting and how much influence the media has on their voting decisions - it's the election through the eyes of the voter, not the media.

In this weeks episode, we're going to meet our Gallery! Learn a little about what motivates them, what they see as the biggest issues facing them and their electorate and how they decide where their vote goes.
00:00 - Intro
01:36 - In Hamilton West there's Art - a writer who feels electioned out and disconnected from local politicians.
07:41 - In Te Tai Tonga, we're joined by Scout - the chairperson of a Kohonga Reo who is concerned about the cost of living.
11:38 - In Dunedin we join student Sam who has serious concerns about the proliferation of disinformation pushers in democracy.
16:30 - In New Lynn, we're joined by the One Up Podcast host Sarah, who knows she needs to connect more to politics but still feels alienated by it.
20:05 - Back in Hamilton West we have Kelli, a local access media personality who knows local body politics but general elections she's out of the loop of.
14:16 - and in Hamilton East we have Dan, who will have a new MP no matter what after both incumbents decided to retire this election.

Each week we'll catch up with half the Gallery to see how they perceive the campaign is going, get their impressions of the politicians - or lack of them, and together we'll explore this year's election process as observers.
