Billionaire Aravind Srinivas Warns Developer Who Used AI to Cheat in Online Course
A web developer recently went viral after posting a video showing how he used Perplexity AI’s Comet browser tool to automatically complete a Coursera course titled “AI Ethics, Responsibility and Creativity.” The video showed Comet answering all questions and finishing the course on its own, while the developer jokingly thanked Perplexity and its CEO, Aravind Srinivas, for the help.
However, the post backfired when Aravind Srinivas, co-founder and CEO of Perplexity AI, responded sharply on X (formerly Twitter), saying — “Absolutely don’t do this.” His comment quickly gained attention, sparking debate on whether AI tools should be used for learning or if they are encouraging shortcuts that harm genuine education.
Social media users reacted with humor and concern. One joked, “Give the certificate to Comet,” while another commented, “The real purpose of education is lost.” Some argued that AI could make hiring tougher as it blurs the line between skill and automation.
Aravind Srinivas, aged 31, is from Chennai and an alumnus of IIT Madras, holding degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Before launching Perplexity AI in 2022 with co-founders Denis Yarats, Johnny Ho, and Andy Konwinski, he worked at leading tech firms like OpenAI, Google, and DeepMind.
According to the Hurun India Rich List 2025, Srinivas recently became India’s youngest billionaire, with a net worth of around ₹21,190 crore, representing India’s rise as a global leader in deep-tech and AI innovation.
