00 - INTRO* Next, let’s explore Seaside - one of the coolest areas in Oregon! I will show you what this ocean side city is all about so join me, only on the ETA.

55 - Seaside, found in 1899 and located just N. of Cannon Beach is a spectacular resort city in the PNW with lots to offer! Seaside is just over 4 square miles in total area with a population of about 7 thousand residents.

30 – Looking right onto the Pacific Ocean, this side of the Beach is rocky. It is called the Seaside Cove and is along the Ocean Vista Dr. If you head just North along the Beach on the S. Promenade, you will be on the sandy side of the Beach.

26 - Seaside is a fun place to be and the place is bursting with many shops, awesome restaurants, great bars and arcades. There are a ton of places to eat. It’s a great family location to relax, hike, kayak or do any other water sport activities.

29 – The hill you see in the distance is the Tillamook Head which is located in the Ecola State Park. It is a high promontory which is a raised mass of land projected into a lowland and the Pacific Ocean.

32 - The Tillamook Head, named after the Native American Tribe, forms a steep rocky bluff standing at about 1,200 ft high. It was formed by the lava spreading to the Columbia Gorge to a 600-foot thick basalt sill. It is a remnant of a flow of 15-million-year-old Columbia River basalt.

27 - The greenery you see on the Head are the Sitka Spruce trees.

14 - What is the best part of Seaside? It is the 1.5 miles long promenade that stretches along the Pacific Ocean going from the Avenue U all the way to the 12th Ave! This “Seaside Oregon Promenade” is also referred to as “The Prom.”

24 - Along the Prom you will see some very nice houses. A lot of these are the vacation rentals. Some of the houses you can actually buy.

14 - On June 21st 1942 approximately 6 months after the Pearl Harbor attack by the Japanese, Fort Stevens, a military installation guarding the mouth of the Columbia River was shelled by the Long-Range Japanese submarine firing a 5.5 inch deck gun at the shore. Without any warning, 17 shells were fired with most landing at the Seaside beach. Japanese sub was only 6 miles South of Fort Stevens. Fortunately no significant damage was done.

38 - On March 27th of 1964 a huge 9.2 magnitude earthquake hit near Alaska causing a destructive Tsunami reaching and flooding parts of Seaside. With all the dark history behind, today the town of Seaside is as beautiful as it gets. It is a peaceful and family friendly city with serene views and pleasant atmosphere.

19 - These white sandy beaches are so relaxing it make you forget about the outside World. The sand is soft and pleasant to walk on. You can fly kites or just gaze at the nature.

34 – This is the North end side of the prom right at the 12th Ave.

27 – Just across the Columbia River via the Astoria-Megler bridge is the WA state. The steel bridge, aka the Columbia River Bridge opened in 1966 and it is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America. It is just over 4 miles long and 200 feet high. This bridge was the final segment of the US Route 101 to be completed between Olympia, Washington and Los Angeles, California. Today an average of 7,100 vehicles cross the bridge each day.

48 - Heading on the Lewis and Clark Trail Highway along the coast you will see a lot of beautiful views just like these ones. So enjoy.

22 - PREVIEW* Next, let’s fly back to JAPAN and straight to our favorite pizza place in Yokosuka. Don’t miss it – ONLY on the Epic Travel Adventures!
