Well, it's about that time of year again. May is officially NF Awareness Month. For those of you who do not know what NF is, it stands for neurofibromatosis. What's that, you say?

NF, or neurofibromatosis, is a medical condition that arises from a very specific genetic alteration that occurs during development. People with this condition will often develop a set of symptoms, ranging from eye problems to bone abnormalities. However, the effects are most notable on the skin.

Neurofibromatosis produces both large and small tumors of the nervous system that can at times be quite extensive and difficult to hide. For some folks with this condition, they can have significant pain and discomfort.

There is an estimated 1 in 3000 people born with NF, which means you have likely met someone with this condition.

Please help me raise awareness all month long for this very common condition that can have a lifelong impact on individuals. Awareness can also raise much needed dollars for research into eradicating the condition and to help provide vital services to help alleviate some of the difficulties that people with this condition can experience.
