We begin exploring Lake District by showing some of the beautiful town of Kendal. Kendal was our home during our time in Lake District & we're so glad we chose it. It's at the very base of the Lake District, however it provided the perfect jumping off point for the trek north.

We stopped first at an iconic coffee shop called Farrer's Tea & Coffee House. Farrer’s has been been in business since 1819, so we felt like these people probably knew what they’re doing. We sipped on our coffee while walking over to the famous Kendal Castle. These are now ruins, but It’s been here since the 12th century when the Baron of Kendal resided here & while it’s obviously no longer anyone’s residence with the exception of maybe a few birds, it still offers a cool glimpse into Kendal’s past, as well as a great view of the town.

From Kendal we made the drive through Windermere to the small Lake District village of Ambleside. Like Kendal & Windermere, it has a cute town center with no shortage of stops. It’s also nearby to Wray Castle & Hill Top, which was Beatrix Potter’s home. Beatrix Potter is the author of the Tales of Peter Rabbit. She’s a massive part of the history in Lake District. While in Ambleside we stopped by Bridge House. It was constructed in the 17th century and has somehow withstood the test of time & the weather of Northern England. It’s a quirky little building & we felt like we had to see it.

Now that we’d done a bit of exploring some towns, we wanted to step into the outdoors as Lake District has no shortage of incredible trails & hikes. Just down the road from Ambleside is Rydal Cave & Loughrigg Fell. While Rydal Cave is man-made, it’s still such a cool place to explore. It’s a former slate quarry located on the slopes of Loughrigg Fell & serves as a fun little side adventure from climbing Loughrigg Fell. Loughrigg Fell is a 335 meter hill that offers some spectacular views of the area. While it’s obviously not the largest mountain in the area, a lot of people have said that this has the most beautiful views & isn’t too strenuous. We unfortunately didn't make it all the way to the top due to some construction on the path, but it still gave some pretty spectacular views of the lake below.

After the hike we made our way to probably the most popular town in Lake District, Keswick. You can spend a ton of time just wandering around the town center & lake front, but we did that a few days ago & decided we wanted to visit the Pencil Museum. This may come as a surprise, but the pencil was created here way back in 1832! It’s also home to the largest colored pencil so for 5 pounds each, we felt like it was worth the cost of admission to see! We toured the museum & took the fun test they give you before making our way to our other stop in Keswick.

We drove up the hill to the nearby to visit the Castlerigg Stone Circle. It was constructed as a part of a megalithic tradition that lasted from 3,300 to 900 BC, during the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Ages. This stone circle offers spectacular views of the valley & you can easily see why these early humans felt the locations significance. This is a must-stop if you're ever in Lake District.

We ended the day by grabbing dinner & pints at Kirkstone Pass Inn. This pub sits at 1,481 feet, making it the 3rd highest pub in all of England. The drive up to the Inn is not for the faint of heart, but the reward is a great pint with spectacular views. We can't recommend stopping here enough!!

Thank you so much for tuning in & see you in a few days for our next stop! Also, feel free to like & subscribe if you enjoyed the content as it helps us tremendously!
