Welcome to the video! My name is Aleksi, and on this channel, I cover Microsoft Fabric and Azure-related topics. In this video, we continue our journey with Microsoft Fabric data engineering, focusing on the lookup activity in data pipelines. This video is part of my Microsoft Fabric data engineering series, and you can find the link to the playlist in the description below. Keep in mind that videos in this series build on concepts covered in previous videos.

What You’ll Learn:
🔹 How the lookup activity works on a conceptual level.
🔹 Practical demo/tutorial using the lookup activity in a Microsoft Fabric data pipeline.
🔹 How to fetch data from a data source and use it in your pipeline processing logic.
🔹 Configuration of lookup activity to retrieve single or multiple rows.
🔹 Usage of lookup activity output in subsequent pipeline activities.

Presentation:
Imagine a Fabric Data Pipeline with a copy activity and a Lakehouse containing a configuration table. We use the lookup activity to fetch data from this table and instruct our copy activity. The lookup activity can retrieve data from a dataset, either the first row or all rows, with certain limitations. The output of the lookup activity can be used dynamically in following activities, such as a foreach loop.

Tutorial:
We’ll start by setting up our lookup activity to retrieve data from a CSV file in a Lakehouse and explore the different settings and outputs. Then, we'll configure a foreach activity to utilize the lookup output, demonstrating how to iterate over configuration data dynamically.
