Legumes in a Tropical Agroforestry System: Cowpea – GPDA 🇪🇹 #4 | Global Bean Show Gardens

Описание к видео Legumes in a Tropical Agroforestry System: Cowpea – GPDA 🇪🇹 #4 | Global Bean Show Gardens

In this video, Amanuel from GPDA is showing us a second tropical agroforestry system including a legume species, this time with cowpea (Vigna unguiculata). Cowpea is intercropped with papaya, coffee and maize. Cowpea has an important role in the system because it covers the soil and keeps the moisture in the soil which is beneficial for maize and coffee. This kind of agroforestry system is interesting for Ethiopian small-scale farmers who grow their crops on less than one hectare.

Gardulla Peoples Development Association (GPDA) is implementing “agroforestry for sustainable development of people and nature” and supports small-scale farmers in soil and water conservation, farm yield productivity and rehabilitation of degraded lands. They are introducing an agroforestry economy for farmers.
