Treat yourself to some self-care!🧖🏻‍♀️ | Local Lens Seattle

During Mental Health Awareness month in May, I was focused on self-care. I put together three ideas for taking care of and treating yourself that are good all year long – but especially during our beautiful summer months! If you have other suggestions, leave them in a comment on the video and you might see me try them out next time. 😊

My first idea- get out and enjoy a hike 🌲 or urban walk. It’s an option that won’t cost you anything except maybe some calories. It allows you to get out with nature and slow down and get some fresh air. Even if you aren’t an avid hiker there are tons of easy hikes in the area.

Or if driving out of the city isn’t an option- opt for an urban walk. Some ideas for an urban walk- Discovery Park, Alki Beach, Greenlake, Kubota Garden and Gasworks Park.

If you are up for an easy/beginner hike in today’s video I feature Twin Falls in North Bend. This hike is rated 'easy' and is about 2.4 miles round trip. (You can walk a little further past the second falls if you want to add some more steps). I brought my parents on this hike and we were all more than capable of the steady incline. Highly recommend this one!

Other easy-to-moderate hike ideas in the area:

Lake 22- This hike is a Washington classic. The hike takes you to an alpine lake through old growth forests ending with stunning mountain views.

Location: Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest. Closest Town: Granite Falls, WA

Trail Length: 6.8 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 1,473 ft
Parking Pass: Northwest Forest Pass
Dogs: Allowed on Leash

Heybrook Lookout Trail- Fire lookouts are a real treat to visit in Washington! A lot of them usually involve a strenuous hike, but this one is short and sweet with incredible views waiting for you up top.

Location: Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest. Closest Town: Index, WA
Trail Length: 2.6 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 912 ft
Parking Pass: None required
Dogs: Allowed

Bridal Veil Falls- Classic hike on Highway 2 in Washington. Bridal Veil Falls is an incredible waterfall that is cascading down a 100 foot granite rock face. There is an option to continue to Lake Serene for a more challenging day hike.

Location: Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest. Closest Town: Index, WA
Trail Length: 4.2 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 1,043 ft
Parking Pass: Northwest Forest Pass or America the beautiful pass
Dogs: Allowed on Leash

Another idea- treat yourself to the spa. My second stop takes me to Yuan Spa in Totem Lake.

I love the days I decide to take some time to myself and unwind and grab a facial or massage. It’s more of a treat- nice for a special occasion 😊

Yuan Spa🧖🏻‍♀️ has a couple locations. I opted to try their newer location in the Kirkland- Totem Lake area.

I got to try one of their signature facials. It was amazing to learn more about what my skin needs. There is also a membership option at this business which is a great option if you can swing it.

My last idea- fill your cup by volunteering. Doesn’t it make you feel good to give back? I visited ‘Little Dog Rescue’ 🐶 to volunteer and of course spend some time with animals, which always brings a smile to my face.

The rescue’s mission: “Alleviate the suffering of neglected, abused and abandoned dogs by rescuing and placing them with loving families."
