For the first time since 1967, Israel’s new land registration means it will be able to seize West Bank territory from Palestinians who cannot prove ownership, and unofficially redraw its borders beyond those agreed under the Oslo Accords.

Under the stated aims of preventing water offences and environmental hazards, Sunday’s measures assert Israeli authority over civilian affairs in major Palestinian cities.

Analysts say it marks an end to the Oslo Accords and an existential challenge to the Palestinian Authority.
