HOW TO PAINT A WALLABY IN A BOW TIE WITH SUZANNE BARRETT JUSTIS

Most people who are familiar with me and my work know I am a wildlife artist.
‘Tis the season as they say and painting pet portraits takes up a large part of my painting time this time of the year. It’s rare when I am commissioned to do a species that is both wildlife AND a pet. Meet Wally the wallaby. Wally lives in Knoxville, TN, wears bow ties and works in a law office. His people love him and want to honor him by having his portrait painted.

In this time lapse painting demonstration, I will show my painting process from start to finish, step by step of Wally the Wallaby. You will see how I first, do a rough charcoal sketch and an acrylic under painting. The next step is to block it in with oil paints before the detail is even considered. You will also learn the importance of squinting in the early stages of a painting to help eliminate the detail so capturing the the overall composition is a bit easier.
