Playthrough of the SEGA Mega Drive Classics version. This version was initially something you could buy separately on Steam, and it also had a physical version as part of SEGA Mega Drive Classics volume 3. The Steam digital version has since been delisted. The Mega Drive Classics series were later given an update to include a new user interface -the games room seen before the game starts was not originally in this.

Another big addition is mod support. You can download mods and play them on this, which is what I've done here. I'm playing Sonic 3 Complete, a hack of Sonic 3 & Knuckles which lets you change a lot of things in the game. Highlights include being able to play the levels using the normal mode layouts from Sonic Jam and being able to play them in their original intended order, meaning you get to go to Flying Battery Zone after Carnival Night. You can also change the music for several things, or change Sonic's sprite to the Sonic 1 version. My favorite feature is the changes made to turning Super or Hyper Sonic -you can now do this even if you have a shield, plus you can also manually turn back to normal Sonic if you want. Sonic 3 Complete is great, but the Mega Drive Classics series is not. Games have random framerate drops, and there are some major music issues. It’s mainly ok for this game, but one error is the “come on!” heard during the act 1 boss fights getting a lower and lower pitch as the game progresses.
